Biography Pip McGarry - International Wildlife Artist

Pip in Savute with a herd of elephantsPip is a self-taught professional wildlife artist with an international reputation. He has been the 'Artist-in-Residence' at Marwell Zoological Park in Hampshire since 1998 and is the founder and Chairman of 'Marwell International Wildlife Art Society' (MIWAS), currently the largest wildlife art society in Europe.

Through funds donated by MIWAS and sales of his own paintings, Pip has currently raised in excess of £130,000 for wildlife conservation. This includes donations to DSWF, Save The Tiger, the Epulu Okapi Game Reserve, the Dambari Black Rhino Foundation and Marwell Zoological Park in Hampshire.

For a number of years he has led camping safaris for artists and photographers into the remote game reserves of Northern Botswana. His September 2007 trip took a group of nineteen adventurers to explore the Kalahari and Okavango Delta and in 2008 he is leading a trip to the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti in Tanzania. Pip has also travelled abroad extensively and has lived both in Central America and the Far East.

Over twenty of Pip's pictures have been successfully sold at Christies International auctions, with a painting of a cheetah cub fetching a record price in May 2007. Many of his paintings have been reproduced as international fine art editions by major UK fine art publishers. Pip is also represented by Applejack Licensing in the USA.

In 2003, he was filmed on location at Marwell Zoological Park for an hour long instructional painting video and DVD for Teaching Art Ltd, the largest producer of tutorial videos in the UK.

In 2004, Pip travelled to Kenya to be filmed by Meridian Television for the highly successful television series, 'A Brush With The Wild'. The programme was presented by Anneka Rice and featured Pip teaching celebrities such as Christine Hamilton, Jenny Éclair, Lesley Joseph and Nerys Hughes how to paint wildlife.

Pip recently completed a six part series 'How To Paint Wildlife' for the BBC Wildlife magazine. He is a member of the UK Fine Art Trade Guild in the UK, Artists For Conservation in Canada and an elected member of the prestigious 'Society of Animal Artists' in New York, USA.
